Shortly after their arrival, her father took her to Radio Music Hall, sparking her interest in performing.

The family settled in Wilmette, Illinois, near Chicago, where Ann-Margret received her citizenship in 1949. She began taking dance lessons in school and demonstrated a natural talent for copying any movement she saw.
