Early Life and Education

Born in Riga to Jewish parents, Anna Klass began her musical journey at the Tallinn Conservatory, graduating in 1931. She continued her studies at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik until 1933.

Career

In 1938, Anna Klass married Eduard Klass. She became a significant figure in the Estonian music scene, performing extensively throughout the Soviet Union. During World War II, she evacuated to the Ural region and played in a duo with Bruno Lukk from 1942.

Teaching Career

Anna Klass was a renowned pedagogue who served as a professor at the Tallinn Conservatory from 1944 to 1959. She mentored numerous pianists and formed a renowned piano duo with Bruno Lukk, who served as the conservatory's director from 1948 to 1951.

Awards and Recognition

Anna Klass's achievements were recognized with the title of Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR in 1946 and the State Prize of the Estonian SSR in 1947.

Legacy

Anna Klass's son, Eri Klass, wrote about his mother in his book, "Conductor Facing the Audience." Her work as a pianist and educator continues to inspire generations of musicians.

Recordings

The Melodiya label released several recordings featuring Anna Klass and Bruno Lukk's piano duo. Their repertoire included a wide range of works for two pianos.
