Childhood and Early Training
Mark Zeltser was born into a musical family in Chișinău. His mother, Berta Markovna Zeltser, was a concertmaster and teacher at the Chișinău Conservatory, while his grandfather, Mark (Mordechai) Yakovlevich Pester, was a renowned music educator and conductor. Under his mother's guidance, Zeltser began learning the piano at an early age and later attended the Eugen Coca Secondary Music School in Chișinău.
Moscow Conservatory and Competition Success
In 1968, Zeltser enrolled at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he studied piano under Yakov Flier and chamber music under Tatyana Gaidamovich. His exceptional talent was recognized when he became a laureate and diploma recipient at several international competitions, including the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano and the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris.
Soaring Career in Chișinău and Beyond
Upon graduating from the conservatory, Zeltser returned to Chișinău and taught at the G. Muzichescu Institute of Arts. He soon launched his solo career, showcasing his virtuosity and engaging performances.
Family Heritage and Personal Life
Zeltser's younger brother, Emanuel Zeltser, is a prominent lawyer who has been involved in high-profile cases and was imprisoned in Belarus from 2007 to 2008. His daughter, Elizabeth Zeltser-Voloshin, is an accomplished violinist.
