International Success and Olympic Debut
Meares' exceptional talent and perseverance led to her first adult World Championship medal in 2003, securing silver in the keirin at Stuttgart. Her breakout year came in 2004, where she became the World Champion in the 500m time trial, earned her maiden Australian National Championship, and made her Olympic debut at the Athens Games.

At the Athens Olympics, Meares showcased her speed and determination, setting a world record in the 500m time trial to clinch the gold medal. She also claimed a commendable bronze medal in the sprint event, making history as the first Australian woman to win multiple medals at the same Olympic Games.

Meares faced a setback in 2008 when she crashed during the Keirin event at the World Cup, suffering a severe neck injury. Despite the challenges, she made a remarkable recovery and participated in the Beijing Olympics, securing a silver medal in the sprint.

Personal Life and Post-Cycling Career
Meares married Mark Chadwick in 2008 and became the proud mother of two children. Her older sister, Kerrie Meares, is also an accomplished cyclist who won a silver medal at the 2002 World Championships. After retiring from cycling, Meares pursued various ventures, including publishing her autobiography titled "The Anna Meares Story" in 2009.
