Anna Sergeevna Alliluyeva (Redens)
Family and MarriageAnna Sergeevna Alliluyeva (later Redens) was born in 1896. She was the sister of Nadezhda Alliluyeva, Joseph Stalin's second wife. Anna married Stanislav Redens.
Arrest and Imprisonment
In 1948, Anna was arrested alongside her former friend, Polina Zhemchuzhina, the wife of Vyacheslav Molotov. Both women were accused of espionage. After spending several years in solitary confinement, Anna was released in 1954.
Physical and Mental Health
Upon her release, Anna exhibited signs of mental illness. She did not recognize her adult sons and displayed indifference towards her surroundings. She later died in the Kremlin Hospital on an unspecified date and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery.
Literary Work
In 1946, Anna published a book of memoirs titled "Memories." According to Svetlana Alliluyeva, the book angered her father, contributing to Anna's arrest in 1948.
"Pravda" Review
On May 14, 1947, the newspaper "Pravda" published a scathing review of Anna's memoirs, accusing her of factual inaccuracies and incompetence. It is believed that Stalin authorized the publication of this review.
Authorship Dispute
In her preface to the memoirs, Anna acknowledged the contributions of her mother, Olga Alliluyeva, and brother, Feodor Alliluyev. However, Vasily Alliluyev claimed that Stalin assisted his mother in writing the book and that it contained no material that would have angered Stalin. He further asserted that portions of the book had already been published in various periodicals without eliciting a negative reaction from Stalin.
