Early Life and Career
Emily Bergl was born in Milton Keynes, England, to an Irish mother, Roberta Jay Bergl, and an English architect father, Alexander Rodney Bergl. She moved to the United States with her family as a young child and later studied in Chicago. In 1997, she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Acting Career
Bergl began her acting career in 1999 with the feature film "Carrie 2: The Rage," a sequel to the 1976 film "Carrie." She has worked extensively in television, notably with recurring roles in "Gilmore Girls," "Southland," "The Good Wife," "Star Trek: Enterprise," "Medium," and others. She has also appeared in episodes of well-known shows such as "Grey's Anatomy," "Hawaii Five-0," "CSI: Miami," "Law & Order," and "ER."
Bergl's starring roles include the 2002 series "Taken," for which she received a second Saturn Award nomination, and "Men in Trees."
Theatre and Cabaret
Bergl has performed on stage in numerous productions, including the 2009 Off-Broadway play "Becky Shaw." In 2010, she launched her own cabaret show.
Television Roles
Bergl joined the cast of "Desperate Housewives" in its seventh season in 2010-2011, playing the role of Paul Young's new wife. In 2014, she became a series regular on "Shameless." Bergl has also guest-starred in "Elementary," "The Knick," "Law & Order: SVU," and "Scandal."
Personal Life
Emily Bergl has a daughter, Eleanor Ruby Rosheen Bergl (born May 17, 2017).
