A Unique Wish Fulfilled: 104-Year-Old Retiree Arrested for the First Time
In a heartwarming display of compassion and community spirit, a 104-year-old British retiree, Anne Brockebrough, had her long-held and rather unusual wish fulfilled: to be arrested for the first time.
A Special Request
While other residents of her care home desired a ride in a Rolls-Royce, massages, or even a cuddle with poodles, Brockebrough voiced her distinct request. "I'm 104 years old and I've never been on the wrong side of the law," she exclaimed.
Police to the Rescue
Responding promptly to Brockebrough's wish, the police visited her care home and promised to make an "arrest." Brockebrough, from Bristol, remained firm in her desire, openly stating to the staff, "I want to be arrested."
The Wishing Washing Line
Brockebrough's dream came to fruition through a charitable initiative called the Wishing Washing Line, organized by Alive Activities for the elderly. Residents of five care homes in Bristol wrote their wishes on slips of paper and placed them in a box. The messages were then taken to Co-op stores, where customers could read the requests and consider offering assistance.
A Memorable Experience
On March 20, 2019, a police crew from Stoke Bishop made the ceremonial arrest of the centenarian, who had worked as a secretary at James Purdey & Sons in the past. Brockebrough was handcuffed and escorted to a police vehicle in a wheelchair, where she sat proudly in the passenger seat. The jubilant retiree also received several commemorative photographs to cherish.
