Biography of Anni-Frid (Frida) Lingstad

Anni-Frid Lingstad, a member of the group ABBA, was born on November 15, 1945, in Narvik, a city beyond the Arctic Circle in Norway. Her father was Alfred Haase, a German soldier who returned to Germany without knowing that he had left nineteen-year-old Synni Lingstad pregnant. Two years later, Synni passed away, and the little orphan was raised by her mother. They moved to Sweden (Years later, Haase was surprised to find out that he had a daughter - a world-famous pop star; father and daughter met for the first time in 1977). Young Anni-Frid loved listening to folk songs, which her grandmother sang, and soon she was singing them herself. "My first, so to speak, official performance on stage took place at the age of 11. I listened to the radio and bought records. One of my favorite songs was "Blue Moon," and my favorite singers were Elvis and Tommy Steele." Although Frida started performing on stage at the age of thirteen with various groups, her first real success came in 1967 when she won first place at a young performers competition in Stockholm. At that time, she was 22 years old and already a married woman - with Ragnar Fredriksson, who later became her husband, she initially sang in a jazz band and then formed Anni-Frid Four.

Leaving Marriage and Pursuing a Solo Career

However, her married life did not last long. When she had good prospects - Frida signed a contract with the Swedish branch of EMI - she quickly moved to the capital, leaving her husband and children. It can't be said that her recordings in those years were very successful, and so it was until 1971 - in 1969, she met Benny, and he started producing her records. And it happened like this: together with Charlie Normann, she participated in a seven-month tour of Sweden when she met Benny Andersson at a restaurant in Malmo. "He was with Bjorn - they needed to urgently write a song for the Swedish contest. Nothing extraordinary happened - just a small party in the hotel room... The next time I met him was in Stockholm." Frida and Benny became members of the jukebox jury on the radio: their team decided which new recordings could become hits and which ones were better not to broadcast. Benny was the president of the jury. Frida and Benny often met at work, so it is not surprising that they soon started dating outside of it.
