Biography of Anneke van Giersbergen

Anneke van Giersbergen is a Dutch vocalist, known for her work in various musical groups. She was born in the city of Sint-Michielsgestel in the Netherlands. At the age of 7, Anneke participated in her first music competition. By the age of 12, she started attending rehearsals of the school choir. Later on, she took singing lessons and joined her first musical ensemble.

Anneke went on to be part of several bands before joining The Gathering in 1994, which brought her more recognition. On February 20, 2005, Anneke and Rob Snijders welcomed their son Finn into the world.

In June 2007, it was announced that Anneke would be leaving The Gathering in August 2007 to focus on her new solo project, Agua de Annique. In October 2007, the first Agua de Annique album titled "Air" was released.

Aside from her solo work, Anneke has collaborated with various other artists and bands such as Bad Breath, The Mess, The Farmer Boys, Ayreon, Lawn, Drive by Wire, Wetton/Downes, Globus, Merry Pierce, Joris Dirks, Moonspell, Napalm Death, Pale Forest, Novembers Doom, and more.

She has also contributed to the albums of other artists, including John Wetton and Geoffrey Downes' "Rubicon." Anneke has worked on the album "Smear Campaign" by grindcore/death metal band Napalm Death, contributing to the songs "Weltschmerz" and "In Deference." Moreover, she participated in the recording of the song "Scorpion Flower" for the album "Night Eternal" by Portuguese gothic/black metal band Moonspell.

In 2012, Anneke plans to release a new album under her own name.
