Blessed Antoni Beszta-Borowski
Blessed Antoni Beszta-Borowski was a Roman Catholic priest and General Vicar of the Pinsk Diocese. He is recognized as one of the 108 Blessed Polish Martyrs, beatified by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Warsaw on June 13, 1999.
Early Life and Ordination
Born in the village of Borowskie Olki, Beszta-Borowski pursued his studies at the seminary in Vilnius (Vilnius). Upon graduation in 1904, he was ordained a priest and commenced his pastoral work at St. Raphael's Church in Vilnius.
Priestly Service
In 1920, Beszta-Borowski was assigned as a priest in Bielsk Podlaski, where he served as parish priest. From 1927 onward, he assumed the role of dean.
General Vicar of Pinsk Diocese
At the outbreak of World War II, Bishop Kazimierz Bukraba appointed Beszta-Borowski as General Vicar of the Pinsk Diocese. His duties entailed overseeing the administration of the diocese during wartime.
Martyrdom
On July 15, 1943, Beszta-Borowski was arrested by German occupation forces and executed in a forest near Bielsk Podlaski on the same day. His martyrdom was recognized as a testament to his unwavering faith amidst persecution.
Beatification and Legacy
On June 13, 1999, Beszta-Borowski was beatified alongside other Polish martyrs of World War II by Pope John Paul II. A memorial in his village of birth commemorates his sacrifice. His liturgical feast day is celebrated on June 12.
