Anthony LaPaglia, the renowned Australian actor, was born on January 31, 1959, in Adelaide, South Australia. His mother, Maria Johannes (nee Brendel), was of Dutch descent and worked as a secretary. His father, Gedio "Eddie" LaPaglia, was an Italian who worked as a mechanic and car dealer. His parents immigrated from Calabria, Italy.

LaPaglia attended Rostrevor College and developed a passion for the world of dramatic arts as a teenager. He joined the South Australian casting agency known as "S.A. Castings" and was supposed to undergo a special course for two and a half years. However, after studying for a year and a half, he left everything behind and moved to Los Angeles.

LaPaglia is best known for his role as FBI agent Jack Malone in the television crime series "Without a Trace." He received a Golden Globe Award for this role in 2004. He has also appeared in other series such as "Magnum, P.I.," "The Twilight Zone," "Tales from the Crypt," and "C.S.I. Crime Scene Investigation." Among his notable film credits are "Ned Kelly," "The Client," "Autumn in New York," "Analyze This," "Sweet and Lowdown," "The Other Man," and "Lantana," among many others. His latest work is the thriller "Balibo."

Beyond his acting career, LaPaglia is known for his love of football. In 1980, he played as a goalkeeper in the National Soccer League for the teams Adelaide City and West Adelaide. Currently, LaPaglia is the owner of the A-League club "Sydney FC" and regularly flies from California to Sydney to support his team. He also served as the executive producer of the documentary film "The Away Game," which tells the story of Australian footballers playing in Europe.

In 2004, LaPaglia underwent hip replacement surgery, which prevented him from playing football. However, he occasionally participates in games with the amateur club "Hollywood United," where he serves as the president.
