Early Life and Education
Antonín Bartoněk was born in a date unknown and studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at Masaryk University in Brno where in 1952 he began his teaching career.
Academic Career
Bartoněk is a renowned classical philologist and professor. His areas of expertise include Latin and Classical Greek languages and cultures. From 1952 onwards, he taught at Masaryk University and from 1990 onwards, he also taught at Palacký University in Olomouc.
As a visiting professor, Bartoněk delivered lectures at esteemed universities such as the University of Vienna, Heidelberg University, University of Graz, University of Amsterdam, and University of Cambridge. He also undertook research and training at various European universities, including those in Athens, Venice, Naples, and Regensburg.
International Renown
Bartoněk gained international recognition for his contributions to the study of Mycenaean civilization. He was a member of the International Society for Mycenaean Studies, headquartered in Paris, and served as a member of the Czech UNESCO Commission.
Literary Work
Bartoněk's scholarly work includes the monograph "Golden Mycenae," which was translated into Russian and published in the Soviet Union.
