Biography of Antonio Carbajal
Antonio Carbajal, a former Mexican football player, was a goalkeeper who played for the Mexican club "Real Club España" and "León". He represented the Mexican national team from 1950 to 1966, participating in 48 matches.
A Legendary Record
Carbajal is one of only three football players, alongside Lothar Matthäus and Gianluigi Buffon, to have participated in five World Cup championships. At the 1966 World Cup in England, Carbajal set a record by becoming the first player to appear in five final tournaments.
A Talented and Agile Goalkeeper
Carbajal, a tall and agile goalkeeper, played for the Mexican national team in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, and the 1962 World Cup in Chile. The 1966 championship marked his last World Cup appearance, which was only fitting as he made his debut for the national team at the 1948 Olympics in London.
Career and Achievements
After returning from the Olympics, Carbajal signed a contract with the club "León" and played for them until the end of his career in 1966. He was later awarded the FIFA Golden Medal for his contributions to football. Carbajal received the nickname "El Cinco Copas" in Spanish, which translates to "The Five Cups", in recognition of his remarkable achievement of participating in five World Cups.
