Luis Castejón y Martínez de Arizala, a renowned Spanish military officer, was born in Granada, Spain. He received a military education and became an infantry officer. He served in the Spanish Foreign Legion in Morocco, where he rose to the rank of Major by 1936.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
Castejón played a pivotal role in the Spanish Civil War, which broke out in July 1936. He actively participated in a military conspiracy against the Popular Front government. On July 17, 1936, he became one of the leaders of the right-wing military uprising in Morocco.
In the early stages of the war, Castejón commanded a key column of African troops that captured Spanish Morocco and advanced through southern Spain. He participated in the Battle of Talavera de la Reina and the Siege of Madrid, where he was wounded. His tenacity and determination earned him a reputation as one of the most formidable commanders of the war.
