Antonio Madureira: Brazilian Guitarist and Composer
Antonio Madureira, a Brazilian guitarist and composer, successfully combines traditional Brazilian music with the most advanced techniques of contemporary Brazilian guitar in his work. Born on November 24, 1949, in Macau, a small town in northeastern Brazil, Madureira's family moved to Recife when he was 17 years old. It was in Recife that Madureira immersed himself in music and began his professional artistic career. He studied guitar at the School of Fine Arts with Spanish pedagogue Jose Carrion, a student and follower of master Emilio Pujol, and also took additional lessons in harmony and counterpoint.
In 1970, Madureira received an invitation from writer Ariano Suassuna to participate in the "Armorial Movement" and became the leader of the significant Brazilian instrumental group Armorial Quintet.
