Early Life and Immigration

Anwar Pervez was born on December 1st, 1935, in Gujar Khan, Pakistan. In 1956, at the age of 21, he embarked on a transformative journey by immigrating to the United Kingdom.

Establishment of Bestway Group

In 1963, Pervez established his first convenience store in Earls Court, London. By the early 1970s, he had expanded his operations to ten such stores across West London. In 1976, he took a significant step by opening the first Bestway wholesale depot in Acton, West London.

Growth and Expansion

Bestway Cash & Carry grew rapidly under Pervez's leadership. By 2010, it had become the largest independent wholesale group in the UK, with 61 depots nationwide. In 2002, Bestway Group, partnering with Abu Dhabi Group, successfully acquired a controlling stake in United Bank Limited (UBL), Pakistan's leading commercial bank.

Honours and Recognition

Pervez's achievements have been widely recognised. In 1992, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.). In 1999, he was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to business and charity. In 2000, he received the Hilal-e-Pakistan award from the Pakistani government for his contributions to the country.

Philanthropy and Community Involvement

The Bestway Group's ethos is built on the belief in giving back to the community. Pervez established the Bestway Foundation UK in 1987, which supports numerous charitable organisations and community initiatives. He is also a trustee of Crimestoppers, the UK's leading crime-fighting charity, and a supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme for young people.

Political Affiliation

Anwar Pervez is a self-proclaimed Thatcherite and a supporter of the Conservative Party. He has been a regular donor to the party over the years.
