Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia.
1970-1980: Attended the Chkalov School in Yerevan.

1981-1986: Graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the Armenian Agricultural Institute.

Early Career and Government Service

1986: Began working as an economist at the State Committee of Statistics of the Armenian SSR.

Participated in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
