Early Life and Education
Archana Kaur Panjabi was born on May 31, 1972. Her family, who are Sikhs, belong to the descendants from the Punjab province, which is now part of Pakistan. During the partition of India, the Panjabi family left their homeland and moved to India. They later immigrated to Great Britain. Archie was born in West London, but she spent part of her childhood in Mumbai with her relatives. In 1996, she graduated from Brunel University in London with a degree in management.
Career
In 1995-1996, Archie made her first appearances in films and television, playing minor roles in the film "Bideshi" and the TV movie "Under the Moon". However, she gained recognition after her role in the comedy "East is East", where Archie played one of the rebellious children of strict George Khan, a British Pakistani, and liberal English mother Ella Khan. In the film "Bend It Like Beckham" (2002), Archie portrayed the feminine and glamorous older sister of the protagonist, whose life revolves around football, an obsession not understood or approved by her family.
For her role in the drama "Yasmin" (2004), Archie received an award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Reims Film Festival.
