Early Life and Education
Arījs Geikins was born on February 14, 1936 in Riga, Latvia, to an automobile technician father and a teacher mother. He graduated from Jelgava Evening Secondary School in 1955 and went on to pursue his passion for theater at the Janis Rainis Art Theatre Studio, graduating in 1962. Geikins furthered his education at the State Institute of Theatre Arts in Moscow, graduating with a degree in directing in 1969.
Theatrical Career
Geikins began his acting career at the Liepaja State Theatre in 1963-1964, where he made his debut as Peteris in Arvids Zhilinsky and Elina Zalite's play "In the Land of Blue Lakes." He then became a director at the State Theater for Young Spectators of the Latvian SSR, Liepaja State Theatre, and the Valmiera Drama Theatre.
Geikins also authored several plays that were successfully staged in Latvian theaters. In 1998, he published his novel about theater, titled "The First Season of Richard Bush." Additionally, he led the Student Theatre and People's Theatre at the Riga Electromechanical Plant House of Culture.
Film Debut and Tragic Demise
Geikins made his film debut in 1960 in Vasily Levin's "Stronger than Hurricane," produced by Odessa Film Studio. Sadly, he died on February 10, 2008, in a tragic accident. He was buried in Riga's Forest Cemetery.
Recognition and Honors
Arījs Geikins was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Latvian SSR in 1988, recognizing his significant contributions to the arts.
