Biography of Armando Manzanero

Armando Manzanero Canché, born in 1935 in Ticul Municipality, Mexico, is an American musician and composer known as the main romantic composer of Mexico. He began studying music at the age of 8 at the music school in his hometown. Showing great promise, Manzanero composed his first melody, "Nunca en el Mundo" (Never in the World), at the age of 15. This song went on to be covered in over twenty different languages.

At 16, Manzanero started working as a professional pianist. In 1957, he signed a contract with the Mexican branch of CBS and soon began collaborating with musicians such as Pedro Vargas, Lucho Gatica, and Raphael. In 1959, Manzanero recorded his debut album of love songs titled "Mi Primera Grabación" (My First Record) on RCA Victor. His next album, "A mi amor... Con mi amor," was released in 1967, followed by "Manzanero el Grande" later that year. By the end of the 1960s, he had recorded three more albums.

In 1965, Manzanero, already famous in his homeland, won the Festival de la Canción in Miami with his famous composition "Cuando Estoy Contigo" (When I'm With You).
In 1970, Perry Como performed an English cover of Manzanero's song "Somos Novios," titled "It's Impossible," which was later nominated for a Grammy Award. In 1978, Manzanero's song "Señor Amor" (Mister Love) won the Mallorca Festival, and in 1982, his song "Corazón Amigo" (Heart Friend) was victorious at the Yamaha Festival.

Manzanero's songs have been performed by renowned musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, Alejandro Fernández, Luis Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Manoella Torres, and many others. In 1982, he was appointed Vice President of the Mexican National Association of Authors and Composers.

Throughout his career, Manzanero has released around thirty albums and written approximately 400 songs, 50 of which have become global hits. He is considered one of the most significant romantic composers in Mexico. Manzanero continues to work to this day, with his latest album, "Amarrados," released in 2009.
