Early Life and Hungarian Trio Years
Tibor Gerec was born into a Hungarian-Swiss family and began his career as a violinist and conductor in Hungary. He notably played with the Hungarian Trio alongside pianist György Solchany and cellist Vilmos Palotai.
Relocation to Switzerland and Professorship
After 1956, Gerec relocated to Switzerland and became a professor of conducting at the Geneva Conservatory. He also led the conservatory's orchestra and headed the chamber orchestra, "Romande Soloists." Additionally, he served as principal guest conductor for the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.
Artistic Leadership and Bach Concerts
From 1980 onward, Gerec became the artistic director of the annual Bach concerts in Lutry. His most acclaimed recording was the 1974 rendition of Mozart's string quintets, featuring Arthur Grumiaux's string trio and Gerec playing the second violin.
