Biography of Artemiy Ayvazov

Artemiy Ayvazov, an Armenian doctor, was a member of the first State Duma and a member of the Cadet faction. He was of Armenian descent and belonged to the Armenian-Gregorian faith. Ayvazov studied at the Echmiadzin Spiritual Academy and the 3rd Tiflis Gymnasium. In 1900, he graduated from the medical faculty of Kharkov University. He worked as an extern doctor at the Elizavetinskaya Clinical Hospital and later served as a public doctor in the village of Akulisy in the Erivan Governorate. He also served as the head of the city hospital in Akhaltsikhe. Ayvazov was a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party.

On May 27, 1906, Ayvazov was elected as a deputy to the first State Duma by the electors of the Tiflis Governorate Electoral Assembly. In the Duma, he joined the Cadet faction. After the dissolution of the first Duma, Ayvazov signed the Vyborg Appeal, for which he was sentenced to three months in prison and deprived of his electoral rights.
