Biography of Arthur Abraham

Arthur Abraham, a professional boxer, is the holder of the Inter-Continental Title in the middleweight category according to the WBA (World Boxing Association) version. He is an Armenian professional boxer who competes in the middleweight division. Currently, he is the reigning world champion according to the IBF (International Boxing Federation) version.

Arthur Abraham is trained by Ulli Wegner and his promoter is Wilfried Sauerland. He has achieved the 4th position in the world rankings.

German Citizenship and Commentator
In 2006, Arthur Abraham acquired German citizenship after passing the German language exam. He has been residing in Germany since 2004. Alongside his professional boxing career, Arthur also works as a commentator for the German TV channel ARD. He has provided live commentary for notable fights, including the heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev's bout against Monty Barrett.

Professional Career
Arthur Abraham began his professional boxing career on August 16, 2003, in a fight against Frank Carley Rota from Germany. Prior to the fight, Rota had one win, one draw, and one loss in his record. Arthur started his career on a successful note by winning through a technical knockout in the third round.

First Title Fight
Arthur's first title fight was against Nader Hamdan for the Inter-Continental Title in the middleweight division according to the WBA version. It was his thirteenth fight, and he achieved victory through a technical knockout in the twelfth round. He successfully defended the Inter-Continental Title three times afterward.

World Title
In late 2005, the IBF middleweight world title became vacant due to the reigning champion, Jermain Taylor, refusing to defend it. Despite being ranked sixth in the IBF rankings at that time, Arthur Abraham became the contender for the world title as the boxers ranked above him were already committed to other fights. On December 10, 2005, Arthur won the IBF middleweight world title in a twelve-round bout against Kingsley Ikeke from Nigeria, securing a knockout victory in the fifth round. He defended the title for the first time on March 4, 2006, against Shannan Taylor from Australia. The fight was unanimously in favor of Arthur Abraham, with the judges' scores being 120-106, 120-107, and 120-107.

Further Defenses
Two months after his first title defense, on May 13, 2006, Arthur Abraham defended his world title for the second time against Kofi Jantuah from Ghana. Arthur won the fight with a unanimous decision by the judges, with scores of 117-109, 116-111, and 115-112. Despite suffering a broken jaw in the fifth round, Arthur displayed resilience and came out victorious.

Fourth Title Defense
Arthur Abraham's fourth title defense was against Sebastian Demers from Canada, who had a successful record of twenty fights and was ranked 27th in the world. In the third round, Arthur Abraham knocked his opponent down, prompting the referee to intervene and stop the fight, resulting in a technical knockout victory for the Armenian boxer.

Boxer of the Year
In 2006, Arthur Abraham was named "Boxer of the Year" in Germany by the magazine "BoxSport." He surpassed heavyweight champion Vladimir Klitschko and light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei to receive this title.
