Arthur Drewry: Fifth President of FIFA

Arthur Drewry served as the fifth president of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) from 1955 to 1961. During this time, he held the additional roles of Chairman of the Football Association (FA) of England and Head of the English Football League.

Rise to the Presidency

Prior to Druery's official appointment as FIFA president on June 9, 1956, he had been effectively running the organization for six months due to the ill health of the outgoing president, Rudolf-William Seerleder.

FIFA Presidency

Drewry's presidency marked several significant milestones in FIFA's history. In 1958, he presided over the opening ceremony of the 6th FIFA World Cup in Sweden, which saw the participation of 16 teams.

Later Years

After stepping down as FIFA president, Druery continued to be involved in football administration. He remained active in the English FA and Football League until his death at the age of 80.
