Biography of Arthur Gilbert

Arthur Gilbert is an English athlete and triathlete, and is considered the oldest triathlete in the world. Many believe that the main problem of professional sports as a career is the lack of long-term prospects. Most athletes retire between the ages of 30 and 40, and in some sports, the critical age can come even earlier. Some former athletes may become coaches, but this outcome does not satisfy everyone. Arthur Gilbert is living proof that you can continue to participate in sports until old age. Even at the age of 91, Gilbert has not given up his favorite triathlon. He recently completed a distance of 500 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling, and 5 kilometers running in 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 22 seconds. Despite a thigh muscle injury, Gilbert persevered and finished the race. Although he came in last, his time is more than impressive. This result is not purely a stroke of luck; Gilbert trains extremely hard. Every morning, he swims 50 laps in the local pool, visits the gym twice a week, and rides his bike 25 miles every Sunday. Of course, as the years go by, engaging in sports becomes more challenging, and even Gilbert admits that age takes its toll. However, he has no intention of giving up his training and firmly believes he will continue to participate in sports as long as he can.

Arthur Gilbert's Life

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Arthur Gilbert has had a remarkable life. He served in the Second World War and worked at a helicopter factory. However, his main focus now is on sports. Last year, Gilbert caught the attention of The World Records Academy and was recognized as the oldest triathlete in the world. It is highly possible that this title is not the only record he will achieve. Gilbert's sportsmanship and will to live are qualities that many younger men could envy. As a testament to his unique athletic achievements, Gilbert was recently honored with one of the greatest awards a athlete can dream of - he was entrusted to carry the Olympic torch. He carried the torch to the site of the next Olympic Games in London, passing through Minehead, Somerset.
