Early Life and Education
Luis Bolander was born to a Spanish American family in the United States. His exact birthplace and date of birth are not publicly available.
Literary Career
Bolander began his literary career as an author of children's books. His works have been published and distributed by Random House, particularly in Spain and South America.
In addition, Bolander has written historical fiction sagas published by Edhasa. These works focus on Germanic heroes from ancient Rome and early medieval periods, including Arminius and Duke Widukind of Saxony. His books have been translated into numerous languages, including Dutch, Italian, French, and Romanian.
Filmmaking Debut
In 2010, Bolander made his directorial debut with the documentary film "Little Spain." The film explores the history of Manhattan's 14th Street, which was home to a community of Spanish immigrants.
Bolander resided in the Spanish Benevolent Society building for over a year as an artist-in-residence. During this time, he discovered previously unknown archives on 14th Street that shed light on the neighborhood's origins.
"Little Spain" unveils the untold story of Spanish immigrants in Manhattan and their community surrounding 14th Street. The film features over 450 photographs and 150 documents that had not been accessible to the public before, documenting the history of Little Spain throughout the 20th century.
Bolander dedicated the film to Federico García Lorca, incorporating lines from the poet's work "Poeta en Nueva York."
