Early Life and Education

Born in Odessa, Russian Empire (now Ukraine),the young politician received his early education at a Jewish gymnasium and later attended the Polytechnic Institute. As a youth, he became an active member of the "Ha-Shomer Ha-Tzair" youth organization.

Aliyah and Kibbutz Founding

In 1924, the aspiring leader made "Aliyah" (immigration)to Eretz-Israel, where he played a pivotal role in establishing Kibbutz Afikim. He was a staunch supporter of the "Ha-Kibbutz Ha-Meuchad" (United Kibbutz Movement).

Political Beginnings

Within "Ha-Shomer Ha-Tzair," he led the "Netzach" faction. His political career began in earnest in 1949 when he was elected to the first Knesset (Israeli parliament)on the list of the Mapai party.

Knesset Representation

After his initial term, he was reelected to the Knesset in 1955as a member of Mapai. In 1965, he joined the Rafi party (Workers' List), founded by former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, and was elected to the sixth Knesset.
