Early Life and Education

Asef Zeynalli was born on August 29, 1909, in Derbent. In 1926, he graduated from the Baku Music College and subsequently completed his studies at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in 1931 under the tutelage of Uzeyir Hajibayov.

Teaching and Early Compositions

During his time at the conservatory, Zeynalli held various teaching positions. From 1928 to 1932, he taught at the music school affiliated with the conservatory, where he mentored notable composers such as Gara Garayev and Tofig Guliyev.

Pioneering Romantic Songs

Zeynalli is widely regarded as the founder of romantic songs in Azerbaijani music. His compositions, including "Vatan" (Homeland), "Sorgu" (Question), "Chadra" (Veil), and "Seyran" (Wanderer), gained immense popularity.

Music for Theatrical Productions

Zeynalli's compositions extended beyond romantic songs. He wrote music for several dramatic performances at the Turkic Workers' Theater, including plays by Jabbarly, Nazerli, Rustam, Hamid, and Kirshon.

Innovations in Azerbaijani Music

Zeynalli's "Children's Suite" became the genesis of Azerbaijani children's music. Additionally, he created the first violin and piano miniatures and played a significant role in introducing symphonic works to Azerbaijan.

Legacy and Influence

Despite his untimely demise at the age of 23, Zeynalli's musical legacy remains profound. He preserved and arranged approximately 50 Azerbaijani folk songs, leaving an enduring impact on the development of Azerbaijani music.
