Early Life and Education
American economist Daron Acemoglu was born into an academic family with his father being an economist and his mother being a historian. He obtained his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Chicago in 1981 and later went on to pursue a master's degree in history (1985) and a doctorate in economics (1989) from Northwestern University.
Academic Career
Acemoglu joined the faculty of Stanford University in 1989 as an Assistant Professor and became a Full Professor in 1999. In addition to teaching at Stanford, he held visiting positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Research
Acemoglu's research focuses on economic growth, inequality, and political economy. He has made significant contributions to our understanding of how institutions, political systems, and technological progress shape economic development.
