Early Life and Coaching Career
Born on May 6, 1955, in Petah Tikva, Israel,Avram Grant embarked on his coaching career with his hometown club, Hapoel Petah Tikva, guiding them to an unexpected second-place finish in the 1990/91 season and lifting the Intertoto Cup twice.
Success with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Haifa
Grant then moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won the Israeli league title in his debut season by a 13-point margin. The team reached the Israeli Cup final but fell short of victory. In 1994, they won the Cup and repeated as league champions in 1995. Grant subsequently joined Maccabi's rivals, Hapoel Haifa, but only managed a fourth-place finish.
In 1997, Grant returned to Tel Aviv and once again won the Intertoto Cup in 1999. In 2000, he took over Maccabi Haifa, where he achieved his greatest club success. Over two seasons, he guided them to two league titles and the Intertoto Cup in 2002, a consolation prize for losing the domestic cup that year.
Israeli National Team and Chelsea
Appointed Israeli national team coach at the age of 46,Grant became the youngest manager in the country's history. He led the team to impressive results, becoming its most successful coach. In 33 matches, he won 14, drew 13, and lost 6.
In July 2007, Grant joined Chelsea as director of football, a role he had previously held at Portsmouth. Following the departure of José Mourinho in September 2007, Grant was named manager, with Steve Clarke remaining as assistant manager.
