Svenssen rose to prominence while playing for Vålerenga Fotball. His remarkable stint with the club spanned several years, culminating in a triumphant league title in 1965. Over the course of his Vålerenga career, he accumulated 142 appearances and 58 goals, earning the accolade of top scorer in the 1963 championship. After a brief spell with Eidvold Turn, Svenssen returned to Vålerenga where he eventually ended his playing days.
