Early Life and Career:

Carrie Reid (born August 7, 1947) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Her Grand Slam career began in 1963, reaching the third round of the Australian Open. In 1966, she reached the semifinals of both the Australian and U.S. Opens, defeating defending champion Billie Jean King in the second round of the latter.

Grand Slam Success:

Reid's highest Grand Slam achievement was her victory at the 1977 Australian Open, where she defeated fellow Australian Dianne Fromholtz in the final. She also reached the semifinals of the French Open in 1967 and the Australian Open in 1970.

Top-10 Career:

For 12 years, from 1968 to 1979, Reid remained ranked among the world's top 10 singles players. She captured 26 tournament titles during this period. From 1966 to 1979, she won at least one tournament every year, except for 1975.

World Team Tennis and Federation Cup:

Reid was a member of the Australian team that won the Federation Cup in 1968 and reached the final four consecutive years (1976-1979) on different surfaces. She also competed in World Team Tennis, remaining undefeated in singles matches against both Martina Navratilova and Virginia Wade.

Post-Playing Career:

After retiring from tennis in 1979, Reid became a coach and married Grover "Raz" Reid, a tennis player for the Boston Lobsters. They moved to Raz's home state of South Carolina, where they raised two daughters. Reid is a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) since 1979.
