Biography of Azam Aslanov
Azam Aslanov is an Uzbek oil magnate who, along with his son Amon, has been a member of the board of directors of the UK-registered company 'Transal Limited' in London since 2000. Despite being referred to as an "Uzbek oil magnate," the Aslanov family has not lived in Uzbekistan for over fifteen years, and their public information is not directly linked to the oil industry.
Business Ventures
Azam Aslanov and his son Amon have been serving on the board of directors for 'Transal Limited,' a company specializing in the extraction of non-ferrous metal ores, since 2000. However, some sources suggest that the company listed in directories is merely a mailing server used by various companies. Until recently, the Aslanov family's name had not attracted public attention or media scrutiny.
A Lavish Wedding
In July 2011, the veil of secrecy surrounding the Aslanovs was lifted when their son Amon's wedding ceremony took place at the 'Ayvazovsky' resort in the Crimean village of Partenit. The resort is known for hosting events involving VIPs, including a recent celebration of the 70th birthday of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. Speculations initially suggested that the wedding was for one of the daughters of Sergey Taruta, a well-known Ukrainian businessman and long-time business partner of Azam Aslanov, who owns the resort. However, it was later revealed that the grand ceremony was for the marriage of Azam Aslanov's son. Amon, aged 33, resides in Indonesia and speaks multiple languages. He met his bride through a social network, possibly "Odnoklassniki." Little is known about the bride's family, except that she is a student studying abroad, and her family's wealth is more modest compared to the Aslanovs.
Affluence and Philanthropy
Estimates suggest that the wedding ceremony cost around 15 million dollars, making it one of the most expensive weddings of the year. The event accommodated approximately 500 guests, who were entertained by over 15 Russian celebrities, including Philipp Kirkorov, Nikolai Baskov, Zemfira, Lera Kudryavtseva, and others. Jennifer Lopez was a sensation, receiving a million-dollar fee for her performance at the wedding. Media extensively covered the villa where the celebrity stayed, heightened security measures, and special charter flights arranged for her transportation. A documentary film about Amon Aslanov's wedding, posted online, received numerous negative comments. Despite the criticism, the Aslanov family insists that they earn their money abroad and do not engage in unethical practices. Additionally, Azam Aslanov strives to help his compatriots, particularly residents of Samarkand, by creating job opportunities and sponsoring a local psychiatric hospital. However, he prefers to keep a distance from politics.
