Biography of Reinhold Würth

Reinhold Würth, a seller of screws and building materials, is the head of the Department of Entrepreneurship at the University of Karlsruhe and also serves as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Adolf Würth Group. To understand the uniqueness of this teacher and entrepreneur, it is worth taking a closer look at his life journey.

Early Life and Career

In 1945, his father Adolf Würth founded a small wholesale company for bolts and nuts. At the age of 14, the younger Würth became an official apprentice at the company. By the time he was 19 years old, in 1954, he inherited the company from his father, which had only two employees at that time. Over the years, he developed the company into a conglomerate with an annual turnover of 10 billion marks and a workforce of 37,000 people. The main focus of the conglomerate is to provide all types of assembly and fastening products, with around 50,000 different items. The conglomerate has branches on all continents, including 8 subsidiaries in Russia.

Entrepreneurship Education

When Germany decided to open entrepreneurship departments to instill a taste for entrepreneurial activities among the youth, the University of Karlsruhe invited Reinhold Würth to head such a department. Würth teaches German youth as a professional practitioner, using his own company as an example. He has longstanding connections with the Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), and responded to the invitation of Professor A.A. Dulzon to participate in the celebration of the TPU's birthday and give a lecture on "Entrepreneurship and Responsibility" on May 11th. At the beginning of the lecture, he warmly thanked the polytechnics for the invitation and congratulated everyone on their birthday. He then vividly and colorfully described the principles of his company's activities, including: "quality beats price," "work for the sake of the future," "growth without profit is like death," and so on. One can envy the motto of his company: "We are young, joyful, optimistic, honest, and reliable. We calculate everything easily, and we have a very good readiness to achieve success!" In fact, the entire lecture by the German entrepreneur was dedicated to the idea that at any age and under practically any initial conditions, one can achieve a lot. The key is not to complain or cry, but to look at the world with open eyes and not miss the opportunities that come along. Würth's successful activities over the years confirm his unwavering optimism.
