Early Life and Education

Uzbek statesman and economist Shukurjon Tursunov was born on July 12, 1979, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He graduated from the Tashkent State Economic University in 2000 with a degree in international economic relations and international currency and credit relations. He earned a master's degree from the same university in 2002.

International Experience and Early Career

In 2003, Tursunov enrolled in a master's program at the University of Wollongong in Australia. Upon completing his studies, he returned to Uzbekistan and began his professional career as a specialist at the state-owned trading company "Uzmarkazimpex." He also worked as a leading specialist in the Monitoring Group of Investment Projects at the Ministry of Economy and as a chief specialist in the Ministry's Department of International Financial Structures and Donor Countries.

Rise Through the Ranks in Financial Sector

From 2006 to 2009, Tursunov held various managerial positions at the National Bank of Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NBU), including Head of the Department for Interaction with Financial Institutions. In 2009, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of NBU's investment group, "NBU Invest group."

Leadership in Economic Policy

From 2011 to 2016, Tursunov served as Deputy Chairman and First Deputy Chairman of the NBU Board. In 2016, he became Chairman of the Board of Asaka Bank, a commercial bank in Uzbekistan. From 2017 to 2018, he chaired the State Investment Committee.

High-Level Government Roles

Tursunov's career in government continued with his appointment as Minister of Information Technologies and Communications in 2018. He also served as Deputy Director of the National Project Management Agency under the President of Uzbekistan. From 2019 to 2021, he held the position of Deputy Governor of Jizzakh Region.

Current Position and Future Prospects

Since 2021, Shukurjon Tursunov has been the First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. His extensive experience in economics and international relations makes him a valuable asset to the government's efforts to develop and modernize the energy sector in Uzbekistan.
