Early Life and Education
Born in Shusha, Azerbaijan, in 1875, Badal-bek Badalbeyli was the brother of theater actor Ahmedbek Agdamskiy and cousin of composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. After graduating from the Transcaucasian Teachers' Seminary in Gori in 1895, Badalbeyli moved to Baku.
Founding of the "Badalbek School"
In Baku, Badalbeyli established the Russian-Muslim School on Sovetskaya Street (now School No. 6), which became known as the "Badalbek School." He taught mathematics, Russian language, geography, literature, and music at the school.
Involvement in Education and the Arts
During the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Badalbeyli played a significant role in educational matters. His close relationship with Hajibeyov led him to assist in the establishment of the first music theater in Azerbaijan. He also performed the role of Majnun in Hajibeyov's opera "Leyli and Majnun" from 1907 to 1908.
Support for Hajibeyov's Opera
When the initial performer of Leyli's role in Hajibeyov's opera refused to continue due to opposition, Badalbeyli persuaded his brother, Ahmedbek Agdamskiy, to take on the part, thus saving the production.
Theater and Activism
In addition to his educational and musical pursuits, Badalbeyli was an active member of the "Nijat" charity society and participated in theater productions.
Legacy and Death
Badalbeyli passed away in Baku on September 12, 1932. He left behind a legacy as an advocate for education and a notable figure in the arts in Azerbaijan.
