Biography of Badi Assad

Badi Assad is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist who excels in various musical genres, delicately blending jazz, pop-rock, bossa nova, flamenco, national, and classical music. Born on December 23, 1966, in São João da Boa Vista, a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Badi Assad moved to Rio de Janeiro with her family when she was 12 years old. Her father, Jorge Assad, a Brazilian of Lebanese origin, plays the mandolin, while her two older brothers, Sérgio Assad and Odair Assad, are members of a renowned guitar duo that specializes in Brazilian folk music. Badi inherited her beautiful voice, singing talent, and exotic beauty (there is no doubt that Badi Assad is a stunning woman) from her mother, Angelina Assad.

Badi Assad studied classical guitar at the University of Rio de Janeiro and in 1984, she won the Young Instrumentalists Contest held in Rio de Janeiro. In 1986, at the age of 22, Badi secured a position in the Guitar Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, led by guitarist Turíbio Santos. In 1987, the young performer was named the "Best Brazilian Guitarist" at the International Villa Lobos Festival. It was during this time that Badi Assad began her conquest of the global music scene. She performed in Europe, Israel, and Brazil with guitarist Françoise-Emmanuelle Denis as part of a duo called "Duo Romantique." Singing in English and Portuguese, Badi Assad was recognized as the "Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist of 1995" by the publishers of the specialized magazine "Guitar Player."

From 1998 to 2001, Badi had to take a break from her concert activities due to motor impairment - she simply couldn't play. However, she fully recovered and released the collaborative album "Nowhere" with Jeff Young, an American guitarist and former member of the band "Megadeth," in 2002. She has performed and recorded with many renowned musicians, including Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista, American jazz guitarists Pat Metheny, Larry Coryell, John Abercrombie, and Stephen Kent, who masters the Australian wind instrument didgeridoo.
