Early Life and Amateur Career
Birth and Early LifeBakhodir Jalolov was born on July 8, 1994, in Chirchik, Uzbekistan. He began his boxing journey at the age of 12 at the Chirchik Olympic Reserve College under the guidance of coaches Rustam Saidov and Tulkina Kilichova.
Amateur Successes
Jalolov's amateur career was marked by numerous achievements. He captured the national championship in 2013 and retained the title in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, he earned a bronze medal at the World Championships.
2016 Olympics and Beyond
Rio 2016Jalolov represented Uzbekistan at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, serving as the country's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. He advanced to the quarterfinals, knocking out Venezuelan boxer Edgar Muñoz in the Round of 16 but falling to British heavyweight Joseph Joyce in a close decision.
2017 and 2019
Asian Championships and World ChampionshipsJalolov added the Asian Championship title to his resume in 2017 by defeating Kazakh boxer Kamshybek Kunkabayev. However, at the World Championships that year, he lost to Kunkabayev in a competitive quarterfinal bout.
In 2019, Jalolov once again dominated the Asian Championships, retaining his title. He also reached the pinnacle of his amateur career by winning the World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Tokyo 2020 and Professional Debut
Tokyo 2020Jalolov qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and carried the Uzbek flag at the opening ceremony for a second time. He advanced to the quarterfinals, where he defeated Azerbaijani boxer Mukhammad Abdullayev.
Professional Debut
In February 2018, Jalolov signed a contract with the American promotion company Fight Promotions. He made his professional debut on May 5, 2018, with a technical knockout victory over Mexican boxer Hugo Trujillo.
Professional Career
NABF Junior Title and RiseOn April 10, 2019, in his sixth professional bout, Jalolov captured the vacant NABF Junior North American Heavyweight title with a first-round knockout of American Brendan Barrett. As of September 2019, he is ranked 40th by the WBC and remains the top-ranked heavyweight boxer from Uzbekistan.
