Early Life and Education
Bактыкожа Измухамбетов was born on September 1, 1948, in Dengiyskiy District (now Kurmangazinsky District), Atyrau Region, into a teacher's family. After completing his secondary education in 1966, he enrolled at the Ufa Petroleum Institute, graduating in 1971.
Career in the Oil and Gas Industry
Beginning his career as a driller at the "Embaneft" association, Izmuhambetov went on to hold various positions at the Kazakh Geological and Exploration Research Institute of Petroleum. From 1983 to 1987, he served on a foreign assignment in the Republic of Yemen. Upon his return, he became the Chief Engineer and Head of the Atyrau Pilot and Methodological Expedition.
From 1991 to 1993, Izmuhambetov held leadership roles in the Ministry of Geology and Subsoil Protection. He was subsequently appointed as the General Director of the joint venture "Kazakhturkmunai," the offshore oil company "KazMunayTeniz," and the Managing Director of the National Oil Company "KazMunayGas."
Government Service
In 2006, Izmuhambetov became the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2007 to 2012, he served as the Akim (Governor) of the West Kazakhstan Region.
Parliament and Vice-Speaker
On January 20, 2012, the Lower House of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan elected Izmuhambetov as the Vice-Speaker of the Majilis.
