Early Life and CareerBorn in Szeged, Hungary, on June 20, 1997, Balint Kopasz was introduced to kayaking at an early age by his parents, who were also kayakers. He began training at Algyői Sportkör under the guidance of coach Irene Demeter and made his first national mark at the age of 15 by winning the Hungarian youth championship.
International Success
Kopasz emerged on the international scene in 2014 when he claimed a bronze medal in the 1000m single kayak at the European Junior Championships. His impressive performance earned him the title of Hungary's Young Kayaker of the Year.
Rise to Prominence
In 2016, Kopasz made his debut on the senior international stage for Hungary. He competed at the European Championships in Moscow, where he claimed bronze in the 1000m single kayak, trailing only Fernando Pimenta of Portugal and René Holten Poulsen of Denmark. His strong showing secured him a spot on the Hungarian team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Olympic Debut
Kopasz qualified for the 1000m single kayak event in Rio. While he successfully advanced through the heats, he finished fifth in the semifinals and was relegated to the B final, where he placed second behind Adam van Koeverden of Canada. Ultimately, Kopasz finished 10th overall.
Continued Success
Since his Olympic debut, Kopasz has continued to achieve success on the international level. In 2019, he won the gold medal at the European Championships in the 1000m single kayak and the gold at the European Games in the 500m single kayak.
