Biography of Baloglan Khanoghlan Ashrafov

Baloglan Khanoghlan Ashrafov is an Azerbaijani singer and Honored Artist of Azerbaijan. He was born in 1951 in the village of Bedelan in the Masally district. Along with graduating from the local secondary school in 1968, he also completed courses in playing the tar at the district music school. In 1978, after graduating from the Faculty of Philology at AGU, he became a teacher at a rural school, where he worked for 5 years.

Achievements in Music and Performances

In 1971, Baloglan became the winner of the "Turac t?ran?l?ri" competition organized by Azerbaijani radio. In 1974, he won the "All-Union Festival of Young Workers" and personally received a diploma from Shovket Alekperova. Following this, the young singer toured almost all districts and villages of the Azerbaijani SSR with performances as part of Islam Rzaev's ensemble.

In 1989, he performed as part of the ensemble "Shahriyar", which he himself created, in major concert halls in Baku. He has given concerts in many major cities in the CIS, as well as in Turkey, Iraq, and Germany. At the "Babylon Festival" in Iraq, the audience was amazed at how Baloglan Ashrafov sang about Azerbaijan.

Recognition and Health Struggles

In 2007, Baloglan Ashrafov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan. Many Azerbaijani singers have left positive reviews about him in the book "S?si quran s?das?d?r" ("His voice is the sound of the Quran").

Baloglan's name translates from Azerbaijani as "sweet boy" (literally "Bal" - honey, "oglan" - boy, youth).

On March 8, 2007, the singer was admitted to the Central Clinical Hospital in Baku, where he was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. On March 31, he underwent a liver transplant at the Turkish Memorial Hospital. Fellow countrymen around the world breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing about the successful operation. Baloglan Ashrafov himself considered himself reborn after this. Shortly after the operation, he recorded several new songs and continued his performances.
