Bao Xishun, also known as The Big Guy, was born in 1951 in Inner Mongolia, China. He gained worldwide fame for his remarkable height of 2.36 meters.

Bao was born into a large family and had a normal childhood. However, at the age of 16, he began to experience an alarming growth spurt, reaching a height of 2 meters within a couple of years. This led to Bao joining the basketball team, but unfortunately, his sports career was cut short due to severe rheumatism.

Unnoticed Life and Discovery

After serving in the army, Bao lived a relatively unnoticed life for almost two decades. It wasn't until he buried his mother and had to find a new job in his 40s that people started to take notice of him. Bao found work as a doorman in a restaurant, and it was during this time that he caught the attention of the local and national press.

Guinness World Record and International Fame

In 2005, Bao underwent measurements for the official Guinness World Record and was officially recognized as the "Tallest Living Man" in the world. This newfound fame turned the unknown Chinese shepherd into a global celebrity. He even appeared on the popular American show "The Amazing Race."

The Wedding and Family

In 2007, Bao got married to Xia Shujuan, a saleswoman, in a ceremony that followed Mongolian traditions. The couple welcomed a daughter in October 2008.

A Hero for Dolphins

Bao's size also helped him save the lives of two dolphins at an aquarium. The dolphins had become seriously ill after ingesting plastic debris, and Bao's long arms enabled him to reach into their stomachs and remove the harmful plastic. This act of heroism further added to Bao's popularity.

Living with Fame and Yearning for Solitude

Despite his fame, Bao admits that constant attention can be exhausting. He longs for a peaceful life away from the spotlight and finds solace in his homeland, the steppe, where he can forget about his giant stature.
