Biography of Baptiste Giabiconi
Baptiste Giabiconi, a French singer and model, is widely recognized as the face of advertising campaigns for brands such as Chanel, Fendi, and Karl Lagerfeld. He is considered the highest-paid male model in the world. In 2009, supermodel Naomi Campbell met Giabiconi in Moscow and famously told him, "It's wrong. We all have flaws. You don't."
Born on November 9, 1989, in Marignane, a small town in the Bouches-du-Rhône department near Marseille, Giabiconi grew up in a Corsican family. His father hails from Bastia, a city on the northeast coast of Corsica, while his mother, Marie-France, was born and raised in Calvi on the northwest coast of the island. Giabiconi spent his childhood in Moriani, Corsica, before moving to Marseille, where he lived and studied.
After obtaining a professional qualification in the restaurant industry and a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Giabiconi unexpectedly shifted his career path. He underwent six months of training to become an assembly fitter in the aviation industry. Following this, he secured a job at the Franco-German company, Eurocopter, which produces helicopters.
In January 2007, Giabiconi's life took a different turn when he met a client at his sports club in Marseille who suggested he try his hand at modeling. She referred him to a local photographer who helped him create a portfolio. In September of that year, Giabiconi moved to Paris to approach several modeling agencies. However, unable to make a living in the city, he temporarily returned to Marseille and worked at a frozen food factory for a few weeks.
In 2008, Giabiconi finally signed a contract with DNA Model Management New York. That same year, Karl Lagerfeld noticed his photographs in the Italian magazine 'Slurp' and promptly offered him opportunities to become the face of Chanel and his own line, 'KL.' This marked the beginning of Giabiconi's career in the high fashion world. In October, he walked in his first Chanel show, and in 2009, he closed the fashion house's runway show alongside top models Lara Stone and Freja Beha Erichsen. In 2010, he closed the Chanel show with Abbey Lee Kershaw and Iris Strubegger.
Since then, Giabiconi's photographs have graced the pages of prestigious and influential publications such as Vogue, Têtu, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Numero Homme, V Man, Marie Claire, Purple, Interview, and L'Officiel Hommes. In the spring of 2010, he appeared in a Roberto Cavalli advertising campaign alongside Kate Moss and became the face of Coca Cola Light alongside Coco Rocha. He regularly participates in fashion shows and photoshoots for major European fashion houses, including Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Just Cavalli, Fendi, Armani, and Frankie Morello. He also collaborated with H&M for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
In 2011, Giabiconi appeared in a Volkswagen advertising campaign, and for nearly two years, he topped the list of "50 Best Male Models in the World" according to models.com, until he was surpassed by American model Sean O'Pry. In September 2011, he was included in the "Icons" list, which brings together the most famous male models, sharing the 10th spot with Werner Schreyer.
In 2010, Giabiconi embarked on his music career, releasing his debut single "Showtime" with a music video in December. Although the press reacted cautiously to his new venture as a model-turned-singer, they noted his pleasant voice and predicted that he would find his audience. His first album, "Oxygen," is set to be released in the summer of 2012.
In 2011, Giabiconi participated in the show "Danse avec les stars" (Dancing with the Stars) and finished in third place with his partner. In the summer of 2012, he will appear in the television program "Fort Boyard."
