A Farmer's Dream Fulfilled, Tragically Cut Short

In the realm of unfulfilled aspirations, Barry Strang's longing for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lingered for nearly four decades. After much contemplation, he embarked on a journey to make his dream a reality, only to have it end in a tragic twist of fate.

The Friday Ritual

For almost 40 years, Barry and Pam Strang observed an unwavering Friday routine. Mexican food, a sweet treat at Baskin-Robbins, and an inevitable visit to the local Harley-Davidson dealership brought them joy. However, for Pam, the dealership portion of their ritual held less allure; her passion for motorcycles paled in comparison to Barry's.

A Long-Held Desire

Pam knew of Barry's long-standing desire for a motorcycle, yet she harbored concerns about its inherent dangers. For many years, Barry respected her reservations. But at the age of 59, he felt it was time to pursue his dream. After much persuasion, he convinced Pam, and soon after, became the proud owner of a brand-new Harley.

A Fateful Purchase

On June 27th, Barry Strang purchased his dream motorcycle. As they ventured to the dealership, Pam and Barry parted ways. She needed to collect a custom-quilted blanket, while he was to meet her at the local casino, his new Harley in tow. Barry successfully completed the transaction and snapped a photo of his prized possession, sharing it on Facebook. Pam, too, swiftly wrapped up her errands, but an inexplicable sense of unease prompted her to return to her car. The sound of approaching sirens confirmed her mounting fears.

The Tragic Collision

Unfortunately, Pam's intuition proved true; Barry had met an untimely end. Forensic analysis revealed that he passed instantly, without suffering. As he embarked on his journey on the motorcycle of his dreams, Strang inexplicably clipped a passing farm tractor while executing a right-hand turn. He was thrown from his seat and met his demise beneath its wheels. His helmet, found nearly 30 feet from the point of impact, would have made no difference in the outcome. He had only traveled approximately four miles on his new Harley.

A Heartbroken Widow

The tragic nature of the accident led to a lengthy traffic jam on the highway. It took Pam 45 minutes to reach the scene. In a state of hysteria, she contacted her sister, who attempted to console her with reassurance that the fatality likely involved another motorcyclist. However, Pam held a grim certainty that her husband was no more.

A Life Well-Lived

Despite the cruel irony of the accident, Pam found a glimmer of solace in the knowledge that Barry had lived a full life, and his end came as he sought to enrich it further. As their son remarked, "Dad died with a huge smile on his face." The Strangs had once resided in Sacramento, California, but in 1988, they chose to relocate to a rural setting. Pam, weary of the hustle and bustle of city life, embraced their new abode on a farm. Barry, too, flourished in this environment, learning the intricacies of farming and hunting with remarkable ease.

A Man of Many Interests

Friends and family described Barry Strang as a man of boundless enthusiasm and ingenuity. He eagerly acquired new skills and never shied away from a challenge. An avid fisherman and hunter, Barry had also been in discussions with the Star-Tribune for a year to publish an article, which was finally scheduled to appear on June 30th. Sadly, Barry would never see its publication.
