Upon graduating, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and assigned to the 20th Artillery Brigade in the Caucasus, where he gained experience fighting against local tribesmen.
Military Service
In 1863, Khrimian completed the course at the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff and was appointed as an officer in the Warsaw Military District. He played a significant role in suppressing the Polish uprising, earning the Order of Saint Vladimir and promotion to staff captain for his bravery.

In 1864, Khrimian distinguished himself, earning the Order of Saint George, 4th class, for his actions in the field. He subsequently held command positions in the Zakatal and Black Sea districts, demonstrating his leadership abilities and tactical acumen.
Russo-Turkish War
During the Russo-Turkish War, Khrimian commanded forces defending the Black Sea coast against a Turkish landing. For his bravery, he was promoted to major general. After General Kravchenko's ineffective defense of Sukhumi, Khrimian took over as head of the Sukhumi Department.
