Accomplished Career

Since then, Heppner's skill has grown to make him one of the most outstanding dramatic tenors performing today. While he is particularly associated with the Wagnerian repertoire, he performs a wide range of operas by German, French, and Italian composers. He frequently appears with major opera companies in the United States, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and in Europe. He also performs in concerts accompanied by leading symphony orchestras.

Recordings and Awards

Heppner's performances can be seen on DVD recordings of productions at the Metropolitan Opera, including Beethoven's "Fidelio," Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg," and "Tristan und Isolde," both of which became iconic roles for him. He first sang the role of Tristan in 1998 at the Seattle Opera. In addition to Tristan, his repertoire traditionally includes the lead roles in Wagner's "Lohengrin" and Verdi's "Otello," as well as Aeneas in Berlioz's "Les Troyens."

Heppner has recorded extensively on various record labels, releasing full operas, solo albums, collections of arias, and songs. He is currently signed to an exclusive contract with the German label Deutsche Grammophon (DG). His first solo recording for DG, made in 2001, was the album "Airs Français" accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, which won a Juno Award, a Canadian music prize.
