Bernadette Jordan: A Canadian Politician
Bernadette Jordan is a Canadian politician who serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Shore—St. Margarets, Nova Scotia, for the Liberal Party of Canada. She previously held the position of Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard from November 2019 to October 2021.
Early Life and Education
Bernadette Jordan was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1963. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
Political Career
Prior to her entry into federal politics, Jordan worked for the South Shore Health Services Foundation from 2006 to 2014. In the 2015 federal election, Jordan ran as the Liberal candidate and won with 56% of the vote, defeating the Conservative candidate who received 22%.
From January to November 2019, Jordan served as the Minister of Rural Economic Development. She was then appointed as Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. However, in the 2021 federal election, she was defeated by Conservative candidate Rick Perkins.
Personal Life
Bernadette Jordan is married and has three children with her husband, Dave.
