Biography of Beth Liebling

Beth Liebling, an American musician and bass guitarist, is one of the founders of the experimental instrumental group 'Hovercraft'. She was born in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. Liebling developed an interest in music during her teenage years and was particularly drawn to bands such as 'Articles of Faith' and 'Dead Kennedys'. After graduating from high school, she moved to San Diego, California, where she enrolled at San Diego State University. In 1990, she completed her studies with a degree in journalism.

Liebling played in a band called 'Space Helmet' with her colleague Ryan Campbell, and later formed the trio 'Hovercraft' with him. The group was formed in Seattle, Washington, where Liebling had also relocated. Drummer Dave Krusen joined the trio, creating this unique musical project. 'Hovercraft' released two albums and existed until 1999. Their debut album, 'Akathisia', was released in 1997 under the label 'Blast First/Mute' and garnered significant attention from music enthusiasts. Some praised the trio for their fantastic work, as all five tracks on the album were bold sound experiments. In the same year, the group toured in Japan and performed at several music events, including the Terrastock festival in Providence, Rhode Island. Interestingly, the album cover did not feature the artists' real names but rather the names Karl 3-30 (Krusen) as the drummer, Campbell 2000 (Campbell) as the guitarist, and Sadie 7 (Liebling) as the bass guitarist.

Their second album, 'Experiment Below', was released in September 1998, with Ric Peterson (Dash 11) joining Campbell 2000 and Sadie 7. Once again, critics were thrilled by the music, although it did not capture mainstream interest due to its complexity. After the disbandment of 'Hovercraft', Liebling took a short break. She was later spotted playing as a drummer in the Los Angeles-based band 'Lola'.

In terms of her personal life, Beth Liebling married her boyfriend Eddie Vedder, the vocalist of the famous band 'Pearl Jam', in June 1994. The wedding took place in Rome, Italy. Their relationship had its ups and downs, and they divorced in 2000. Currently, Liebling resides alternately in Chicago, Maui, and Rome. In addition to her musical pursuits, she is involved in painting and writing, and has made several appearances in films.
