Beyoncé began dating her first boyfriend at the age of 12, but the relationship ended after 7 years due to her rapidly developing career. In 2002, Beyoncé met rapper Shawn Corey Carter, known as Jay-Z, with whom she recorded the collaborative song "03 Bonnie & Clyde" and its music video. According to Beyoncé, her relationship with Jay-Z progressed slowly, and it took a year and a half before they went on their first date. Beyoncé also stated that she is not one to rush into marriage. They officially became Mr. and Mrs. Carter on April 4, 2008. Their wedding was a private affair held in New York City, and only close friends and family were invited, with guests being asked to leave their mobile devices behind. Beyoncé chose not to publicize the event and only wore her wedding ring for the first time during her performance at Fashion Rocks on September 5. In August 2011, Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at the MTV Video Music Awards, and in January 2012, she gave birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed twins, Rumi and Sir, in 2017. The couple kept the birth of the twins private, and the first month of their lives was spent in the intensive care unit as they were born prematurely via a C-section. Despite rumors of surrogacy, Beyoncé confirmed that she carried and delivered the twins herself. The couple rarely shares photos of their children but occasionally posts them on their social media accounts.
