Early Life and EducationBill Bailey, whose real name is Mark Bailey, was born in 1964 in Bath, Somerset. His father was a doctor and his mother was a nurse. He spent his childhood in Keynsham, a town between Bristol and Bath. He attended King Edward's School, where he excelled academically. However, he became more interested in music and playing in the school band, which led to him neglecting his studies. After school, Bill briefly studied literature at Westfield College, but dropped out after a year. He later earned a diploma in music from the London College of Music.

Early Career
Bill's love for music and comedy began in his youth, heavily influenced by the comedy group "Monty Python". He started performing stand-up comedy and music gigs, touring with artists like Mark Lamarr. In 1984, Bill formed a comedy duo called "Rubber Bishops" with Toby Longworth, which became popular in clubs. During this time, Bill developed his unique style of combining musical parodies with simple jokes.

Rise to Fame
In 1994, Bill appeared in the show "Rock" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Sean Lock. Their show about an aging rock star was later broadcast on BBC Radio 1. Although the show did not achieve great popularity, Bill decided to pursue a television career. In the 1990s, he appeared in several TV series such as "Asylum", "Jonathan Creek", and "Spaced". In 1997, he launched his own show called "Bill Bailey's Cosmic Jam", which received critical acclaim. He also had a show called "Bill Bailey Live" on Channel 4.

Recognition and Success
Bill received the Time Out Award in 1995 and the Perrier Comedy Award in 1996. In 1999, he won the Best Live Stand-Up Award. Despite his success as a comedian, Bill continued to act in TV series, including his popular role as Manny in "Black Books". He also appeared in films such as "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (2005), "Burke and Hare" (2010), and "Chalet Girl" (2010). Additionally, Bill made numerous appearances as himself on various TV shows.

Musical Talents
Bill's performances always incorporate music, as he is a talented pianist and guitarist. He has an exceptional musical ear and even studied clarinet for six years. In the 1990s, he formed a punk band called "Beergut 100". Bill has performed solo concerts with the BBC Concert Orchestra at prestigious venues like Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Albert Hall. Personal Life
Bill is married to Kristin, and they tied the knot in 1988. Being a devoted "Star Trek" fan, he named his only son Dax after one of the characters. Bill often humorously refers to himself as Klingon.
